I have been hypoglycemic all my life (but not diabetic). My levels can get in the 60’s, but I have been having horrible symptoms (dizziness, shaky, headache, anxious)…but my sugar will be around 74. I will eat, then feel better, so I’m pretty sure this is low blood sugar. Is it possible to have normal sugar levels, and still have the symptoms? I am going to see my Dr. but just wanted some opinions. The Am after sleeping is the worst…can poor sleep also affect these things?
I try to eat cottage cheese, cheese, milk, etc., as a protein source…but I’ve been feeling so horrible lately, and tired…I don’t know if I can take it.
Advise? Could this be something else, or the effects of hypoglycemia and poor sleep? I’ve always heard poor sleep can really affect these things. What else can make you feel this way, aside from low blood sugar? Thanks
The 60s would be considered low in my book. 74 is close to low, depending on the time of the test.
Hypoglycemia is not diabetes. Quite the opposite. Diabetes means your body can’t utilize the sugar it has, and so blood sugar will be elevated.
Sleep can bring on hypoglycemic conditions in the body. Not sure that poor sleep really has anything to do with it, but that’s just an opinion.
Protein is only part of the solution. Big picture is more important: enough calories, enough balance between carbs, fats, protein.
Sounds like a trip to the doc is an excellent idea. Probably good to have a glucose tolerance test. He’ll do a CMP/CBC and make sure you’re not anemic either.

I took it at 9 am this morning.
Usually if your Doctor has sent it to a local Hospital a couple of days. If this is to check if you have Diabetes please don’t worry. I was diagnosed six years ago and live a comparatively normal life. It’s no problem. Good Luck.

i keep having symptoms of low sugar even when my sugar is in normal range, weakness tingling and especially heart palpitations, this is driving me crazy, what could cause this
If your readings are usually high (or were high for a few days) your body gets used to all that glucose. Once you starts regulating your sugar levels, you will feel like your sugar is running low but that is only because it was high for a long time and your body got used to it.
If you keep your sugar levels close to normal most of the time, this won’t happen.
Now if your sugars are normal most of the time and you are feeling like this…you should call your doctor. He/She can probably do an EKG to make sure that the weakness, tingling and heart palpitations aren’t something else.

No symptoms!
I’m not kidding… they say there are symptoms like:
Increased thirst.
Increased urination.
Increased hunger.
Blurred vision.
But not all women feel them at all and don’t know they even have it untill they are tested. All women are tested during prenatal care
because of the risks it poses.
I am 24 weeks so I will be tested soon. I am AFRAID of needles & I have read if I fail the first test the second one requires blood being drawn several times within a few hours. DO they stick you 3 different times? Any advise?
You have nothing to be worried about. I did my first Gest. Diabetes test a few weeks ago. All you have to do is drink this small container of orange liquid (it tastes like flat orange soda so it’s better if you can keep it in the fridge) and then have your blood drawn exactly one hour after.
Having your blood drawn is not a big deal…just a small needle only once. If, however, you do not pass the test (and you’ll find out in about 2 days or so), then they do schedule you for the three hour test which is the exact same thing, but repeated every hour for three hours.
I wouldn’t worry about it…it’s quick and painless. If your afraid of needles, just look away and it’ll be over before you know it. Congratulations and good luck! You’ll be fine =0)
