Hi, I have been taking 5htp for Depression, Anxiety ect.. ect.. and one of the effects it has is it reduces your interest in food and suppresses your appitite, which was great for me as i want to lose 2 stone, and am slowly loseing weight, however i keep going into what i can only describe as low blood sugar symptoms, can anybody confirm this i get – shaky, sweaty, anxious, blurry vision, and feel like i am going to pass out. I dont eat all day until about 5:30 and have a normal size tea, last night chips and chicken, and maybe a bag of chrisps at night with a couple of cups of tea + 2 sugars. Is this the reason why, what is best to eat to keep your levels up or best to have to get them back up. I have drank a bottle of lucozade and a snickers and only feel slightly better? please help?

you need to eat a little more frequently. even if its just something small. try protein bars and such if you can afford them. if not, granola bars and things like that with longer acting carbs. you will feel a whole lot better and it will help you lose more weight cause you will have more energy to do things.

When my blood sugar is below 110 or around 110, I start to sweat, I feel my heart pounding, I sometimes feel dizzy or hear like a buzzing in my ears. If I get below 90, I tend to get irritable or weepy. My doctor says 110 is NOT low blood sugar and I shouldn’t take any glucose to raise it unless I’m below 70 or so and to never let it get below 55. Does this sound right to you?
I’m Type II diabetic on Glucophage and Avandaryl.

He is basing his advice on his knowledge of most human bodies… My best friend is the same way. Her sugar isn’t low but she will show the signs of a hypoglycemic if she doesn’t eat every couple of hours. The key is to keep your sugar level even throughout the day. You need to eat the same number of carbs at equal intervals every day and you need to eat around 6 times a day. An example would be 3 servings (15 grams of carbs per serving) at breakfast, 2 at AM snack, 3 at lunch, 2 at PM snack, 4 at dinner, 1 at bed time snack. You may wonder how you can eat that often, the key is smaller meals. You should avoid fast burning sugars like candy, white sugar, white bread or food made with white flour, white rice, and potatoes. Try to eat more protein and whole wheat items. You want to get your carbs from fresh fruits and veggies whenever possible.

For a year or so now, I seem to have been experiencing low blood sugar symptoms. Atleast five out of seven days, I have the shaking/ trembling feelings, cold/clamy hands, sweat profusely, have headache, turn a pale blueish gray colors, felt week/ dizzy, unsteady walking, and have blured vision. It seems like most of my symptoms fall under the low blood sugar; however, my doctor did a blood test and said i havent had it. I’m getting concerned because I have no clue what this is and I am starting to be concerned because Im scared Im going to pass out. I plan on starting a jogging routine but i dont feel like Im capabable of it because of these sysmptons. I guess what Im asking is if you have any idea what this could be.

Gotta go back to the doctor. Maybe you have low blood pressure? or some type of vertigo? Something is wrong and only a doctor can diagnosis it. Hypoglycemia is a symptom of something and not a condition that stands alone. Perhaps your doctor can arrange for you to get a glucometer to test your sugar for when you feel these symptoms? I would suggest keeping a meticulous diary of when you feel these symptoms. Perhaps this will enable you to find a pattern and then you can take measures to eat or whatever it takes to treat the symptoms.

or even the other way around?
when im in the car, if i text or read something i will get motion sick, but only sometimes. and, i am not diabetic, but sometimes my blood sugar will get low if i dont eat for a while.
when i get motion sick, i get dizzy and sometimes nauseous, so i will lay down to let my brain rest.
lately, when i get motion sick, after i lay down, i will get my normal low blood sugar symptoms (shaking hands and legs and sometimes dizzyness).

i would just like to know if either of these can cause the other??
best answer gets 10 points!

I get shaky and sweaty when my sugar is low. I only get nauseos if I let my sugar go way to low. So eat or else you do get sick. As for the car you do get sick if you don’t look out of the car often, but this can happen to anybody. I’m hypoglycemic by the way.

Fasting with low blood sugar?

28 September 2009

Apparently I’m one of those people whose blood sugar drops very quickly. If I don’t eat for over 24-30 hours, my heart starts racing, my hands shake, I get cold, my fingertips tingle…yeah. So I was wondering, is there any way I can still do total fasts? Like, will my low blood sugar symptoms go away eventually if I just keep fasting? Please help! :)

No, you cannot go on total fasts anymore. End of story. This is dangerous. As someone who has experienced a couple of seizures as a result of low blood sugar, allow me to warn you away from this type of behavior. You need to eat.

It’s been going on for years but I never really took it seriously always thinking its normal but people are starting to tell me I have all the signs of diabetes (low blood sugar) feeling faint and going into a cold sweat and start shaking Ive been to the hospital once for somthing unrelated to the low blood sugar and they happened to check my blood sugar and iit was 2.3 they made me drink orange juice and checked it again later on and it was 2.6 but they never did anything about it. I don’t have a family doctor so where do i go to atleast see if it really that and get it diagnosed because its really starting to interfere with my day to day life

Are you sure about those readings? A normal blood sugar level varies of course from pt to pt but something in the neighborhood of 92-120 is considered a safe range.

You really should see a physician, preferably an Endocrinologist. Diabetes is nothing to mess around with. You can find a physician either from the yellow pages, internet or a recommendation from someone in your community.

Don’t put it off.

I am not diabetic…the last 2 tests of my sugar were 80 and 73….I do occasionally have low blood sugar symptoms. What foods / snacks should I consider carrying with me to help occasional times of low blood sugar (such as at the end of my daily 25 minute walk, etc.) Is eating a food better than taking a glucose tablet ?

Foods that will help raise your blood sugar includes:
Food Amount
Table sugar 1 tablespoon
Fruit juice or regular soda pop ½ cup
Fat-free milk 1 cup
Honey or corn syrup 1 tablespoon
Jam 2 tablespoons
Raisins 2 tablespoons
Gum drops 7 small
Life Savers candy 8 pieces
Hard candy 3 pieces
Glucose tablets 3 tablets
Glucose gel ½ tube
